What is Waterkeepers Bahamas?
Waterkeepers Bahamas® is a proud member of the Waterkeeper Alliance, the world’s fastest growing environmental movement that has united more than 220 Waterkeeper organizations around the world, all working together to focus citizen action on issues that affect our waterways, from pollution to climate change.
Waterkeepers Bahamas® is a non-profit organization comprised of a diverse group of Bahamian and international individuals, as well as community partners that work together to preserve and protect our beautiful Bahaman lands, waters, and ecosystems. These happen through the promotion of policy change, monitoring the waters, community outreach, legal action, and advocacy.
Waterkeepers work to ensure the waters of the Clifton and Western Bays, Grand Bahama and Bimini are safe for swimming and fishing for future generations.
We are environmental advocates since our existence, we have accomplished the following:
- We have conducted monthly boat patrols on Grand Bahama, Bimini and New Providence Islands
- Collected over 600 water samples on 20 Bahamian beaches on Grand Bahama, Bimini and New Providence Islands
- Presented environmental education programs to over 800 students in several schools in Bimini and Grand Bahama Islands
- Conducted our very own cadet programs to include over 150 Junior and Senior High School students on Grand Bahama Island
